Project No. 03 / 21

Serenbe Residence

  • Location Serenbe, Georgia
  • Type Residential
  • Services Architecture | Interior Design

On a ten-acre site in an Atlanta community called Serenbe, these homeowners are planning a main house, guest house, and a pool house. They desire a home that will be simple, elegant, and very private. The goal is to have all main living areas on one level for aging in place and to create a lower profile horizontal structure in lieu of a multi-story tall structure.

Even in the design phase, the vision for this home is clear. As one drives up to the site, one can start to visualize the home stretching across the hill while the exposed, cast-in-place concrete retaining walls burrow deep into the earth, keeping the hillside at bay. The lower level houses the auxiliary spaces, like the garages, the exercise room, and the movie theater, while a staircase leads one up to the main area of the house.

The living spaces are enclosed with low-sloped roofs with large overhangs and expansive modern windows that offer views of the landscape. The exterior is adorned with wood and cement board siding to complement the smooth concrete retaining walls. The next phase of the project will be devoted to designing the interior spaces.

A west facing terrace houses a screened porch, an outdoor pool, and a detached cottage, which are carved into the hillside creating a perfect space for entertaining friends and hosting BBQ dinners.
